Despite being around since 2006, CeraVe has been arguably overlooked in the past by the average beauty buyer for sexier looking products. The brand lends itself to the clinical side of skincare and may have been recommend to you if you have especially sensitive or problematic skin. However due to incredible reviews and accessible prices it’s now not only a household name, but a true staple of any skincare shelf worth its salt.

Starting off like a face wash, this gel type cleanser is applied onto damp skin, lathered up and rinsed off with warm water. This is the only cleanser I have which slots into my routine like a standard face wash, making it a perfect morning cleanse.

With salicylic acid to unclog pores and exfoliate, hyaluronic acid to hydrate, and niacinamide to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion, this cleanser may be basic but it works more than hard enough to get your skin looking tip-top.

CeraVe SA Cleanser: Products

THE GOOD

  • As much as I live for a good balm or oil cleanse, I often missed the simplicity of a face wash, especially for the mornings when a heavy-duty product isn’t needed. CeraVe’s SA cleanser scratched that itch and slotted comfortably into my routine as a light and foamy wash to start the day.

  • As mentioned previously, the brand as a whole is a godsend for those with sensitive skin. No scents, perfumes, or colorants have been added and it feels gentle to use.

  • The cleanser can be used both on the face and body, which many reviewers have claimed it’s brilliance at eradicating keratosis pilaris (the bumpy, dry skin some have on the tops of their arms or legs). The salicylic acid and ceramide combination is fantastic at smoothing out skin, the texture of my cheeks in particular has noticeably improved after I started using this.

THE BAD

  • Although not overly foamy, it is a foam cleanser by nature. This for me means it has a tendency to dry my skin out a touch, and although this is not a huge issue for me and my T-Zone, I find it odd it’s aimed for those with dry skin. I would’ve personally recommended it for normal/combination types suffering with rough skin texture.

  • The scent is clinical and basic. It’s a no-fuss cleanser to get the job done rather than feel luxurious.

THE VERDICT

Did I like it? Generally yes. It leaves me with a different feel to my other cleansers, which took a beat to get used to, but overall I’m happy with the results.

Price? From £12 for 236ml

Would I repurchase? Yes. I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s now a staple of my routine, but I think I will repurchase again in the future.
